Two official pages disagree. The Premium page sells Premium as a Service and Premium ES with Core, Pro and Unlimited packages. The Inseyets FAQ lists Premium, Premium Enterprise and Premium SaaS among discontinued products, and the April 2024 Inseyets explainer says the Premium name will go away. Marked Transitioning for that reason. Learners should treat Inseyets as the current name for these capabilities.
What Cellebrite Premium is
Most phones that reach a lab are locked. Standard extraction gets limited data from such a device. Premium is the Cellebrite tier that attempts lawful access to locked iOS and Android devices and then performs a full file system extraction. It is sold to law enforcement and government agencies, not to the public, and its use is tied to legal authority such as a warrant or a court order, to the agency's own written procedures and to the vendor's workflow.
Cellebrite's Premium page today lists two deployment models, Premium as a Service (cloud based, agency wide) and Premium ES (enterprise server, serving every UFED endpoint), with Core, Pro and Unlimited packages. At the same time Cellebrite's Inseyets FAQ lists Premium, Premium Enterprise and Premium SaaS among products being discontinued as customers are transitioned to Inseyets, and its April 2024 explainer says the unlocking and extraction capabilities of Inseyets are the ones used in Premium and that the Premium name will go. For a learner the important point is governance: who may run an advanced access job, under what order, how the device is preserved before and after and how the attempt is recorded.
Primary applications
Where it is used
- Lawful access to locked devices in serious criminal matters, under a court order
- Full file system extraction once a device is accessible
- Agency-wide deployment through a central server serving several examination stations
- Preservation of devices seized in a locked state until an authorised examination
- Handing full extractions to Physical Analyzer or Inseyets.PA for decoding
Who uses it
- Central and state police cyber cells with legal mandate
- Government forensic science laboratories
- Laboratory managers setting access governance
- Students studying the law and ethics of device access, not its operation
Capabilities and limits
Major capabilities
- Advanced access to locked iOS and Android devices where the device and state are supported
- Full file system extraction after access
- Premium as a Service and Premium ES deployment models
- Package tiers named Core, Pro and Unlimited on the current page
- Access capabilities that Cellebrite says now also power Inseyets
- Vendor training through the Cellebrite Certified Premium Operator course
Technical limitations
- Restricted sale to agencies; a private lab or a student cannot obtain it
- Support for a given phone model and operating system version is never guaranteed and changes with updates
- The product line is being renamed and absorbed into Inseyets, so contracts and documentation need care
- An attempt that fails may still change device state, which must be anticipated and documented
- Legal authority is a precondition, not a formality; an unauthorised attempt is a crime in India as elsewhere
