What Cellebrite Reader is

A laboratory does the extraction and decoding, but the people who need to read the result are usually investigators, prosecutors and defence counsel who have no forensic software. Cellebrite Reader solves that. The examiner exports a UFDR file and the recipient opens it in Reader, where the chats, calls, photos, locations and timeline appear much as they did in Physical Analyzer. Cellebrite lists Reader as one of the core Inseyets products and distributes it free through its Community Portal.

Reader is review software, not analysis software. A user can search, filter by artefact type and date, flag items with tags and bookmarks and produce a smaller focused report from what was flagged. It does not re-parse the data or recover anything new. For a learner this is a useful first encounter with how a mobile extraction looks once decoded, and for a lab it is the practical way to hand over evidence while keeping the original extraction under control.

Primary applications

Where it is used

  • Reviewing a decoded phone extraction without a Physical Analyzer licence
  • Searching and filtering messages, call logs and media in a UFDR file
  • Tagging items of interest and producing a focused report for the case file
  • Sharing evidence with prosecutors and defence under the rules of disclosure
  • Classroom familiarisation with decoded mobile evidence

Who uses it
